What was the conspiracy?

Deep Throat was an anonymous source who leaked information about the scandalous Watergate conspiracy to The Washington Post which resulted in the disgraced resignation of President Nixon. It was due to President Nixon authorizing a series of wire-taps and bugging rival party's offices.

For 33 years, apart from the anonymous source, the only two other people who knew Deep Throat's identity were the journalists who covered the story Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Even today, the stories about Deep Throat is accessible in the book All The President's Men.

It was a close call and the President was almost impeached. But since he fired most of his trusted aides who were associated with him at the time, he was given the opportunity to resign from the Office.

Deep Throat was the main contributor in all of these incidences, since he was the one who leaked classified information to the press. He did so because he considered what was happening was against the First Amendment of US. In 2005, FBI Associate Director Mark Felt came forward claiming to be the Deep Throat who exposed President Nixon. This was later confirmed by both Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.
